Drop-in Networking solutions provide end-to-end wireless connectivity to electronic devices in locations where wired infrastructure does not exist or satisfy customer needs. The new Drop-in Networking Starter Kit demonstrates how Drop-in Networking technology can be used to better manage geographically distributed assets, enhance customer service and even develop alternative sources of service-based revenue.
The Drop-in Networking Starter Kit includes all of the hardware and software tools necessary to rapidly deploy a small scale Drop-in Network. The kit showcases the versatility of Digi’s Drop-in Networking solutions and the ability to select from an assortment of embedded and non-embedded options to build an end-to-end drop-in network. The kit also introduces the Python-based programming engine in the new ConnectPort X gateway that gives users the ability to develop custom software applications for advanced data filtering, automated notification and other value-added data analysis routines.
Each kit contains the following items and can be configured in a matter of minutes:
- (1) ConnectPort X8 Gateway (ZigBee to Ethernet only) - Collects data traffic from ZigBee-enabled devices, in this case via the two included XBee adapters or the two XBee modules, and transports that traffic to a central software application or database over its Ethernet connection.
- (1) XBee RS-232 Adapter - Provides wireless ZigBee connectivity to any RS-232 serial device to which you choose to connect it.
- (1) XBee Sensor Adapter - Provides wireless ZigBee connectivity to the included Watchport/T temperature sensor (or any other Watchport sensor).
- (2) XBee Modules and Development Boards - Provide embeddable ZigBee capability for design into OEM products (sensors, meters, pumps, controllers).
- (1) Watchport/T Tempearture Sensor - Plug-and-play sensor via the XBee Sensor adapter for remote temperature monitoring.
In addition, the kit contains all necessary power supplies*, cable adapters and user documentation, including a Quick Start Guide with sample Python scripts to illustrate the customization that can be programmed into the ConnectPort X gateway using this powerful, open-source programming language.
*XBee adapters can also be powered using three N-Cell batteries.
